Final Blog-Unit 10

Hello Everyone,

When I entered this class I definitely did not see myself has an overall healthy person especially after learning the information that I learned in this class.  The scores that I gave myself during the Unit 3 personal assessment included giving myself a 7 out of 10 on physical wellness, 7 out of 10 in spiritual wellness, and 6 out of 10 in mental wellness.  But since learning some of the exercises during this course I would definitely rate myself a little higher now.  I would keep my score in the physical wellness category because I still need a little work on setting up a routine to workout.  When it comes to spiritual wellness I would rate myself 8 out of 10.  I have begun praying a little more and taking more time to relax and just be in the presence of God.  When it comes to mental wellness, I would rate myself 7 out of 10.  I gave myself this score because I have made improvements by mediating and yoga but I still need to do it on a routine basis.  I need to have a schedule so I do not forget to do these exercises.  I definitely believe because of this course I have gotten closer to overall wellness but I still have work to do and I will need to be committed in order to achieve my goal.

I definitely believe I have achieved some of the goals that I have sent for myself but I know I still have a long way to go.  Since implementing my goals I have begun to meditation more and begun in different meditations so that I have a variety of exercises.  I have also implemented different prayers throughout the week such as revising scripture over and over so that I can understand they concept of each verse.  I believe that I am on my way to achieving my goal but I still have work to do and I believe that I will be able to accomplish my goals through scheduling, planning, and even a buddy system.

The activities that I have implemented into my schedule includes yoga.  Since joining this class during the week, I have become more relaxed and calm after completing the class.  This exercise has given me the ability to get closer to physical and mental wellness.  This class has helped me clear my mind and become more aware of my surroundings.  I believe that because of this exercise I have been able to push out distractions that occur in mind and focus on the task at hand.

I definitely have enjoyed this class.  The exercises that I have done throughout the course has helped me relieve stress and I have been able to enjoy life a bit more because of the information that i learned.  The resources that I learned throughout this course will help me assist others when they want to make a change in their life.  I will be able to pass on the resources and information that I have learned to assist them in visualization, meditation, relaxation, and etc.  Without this course I would have never made a change in my life and I would not be on a path to obtain overall health and wellness.

Unit 9 Blog

Unit 9 Final Project
The reason that health and wellness professionals need to develop physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects is because they need to show their clients the importance of all three aspects.  It is important that they teach their clients by being a role model.  They have to life and teach by living a life that is not imbalance from the following concepts.  So a professional needs to live their life by living healthy life through exercise, eating habits, and etc.  They also have to train the mind in order to change their living habits.  If they are able to train the mind then they can change their lifestyle and reduce their stress, anxiety, and negative thoughts in the process.  Finally, they need to have spiritual wellness because believing in a higher power will allow any individual to have a sense of relieve and gives them a sense of calmness and relaxation.  When these professionals are able to master these three concepts then they will be able to pass their learning and information on to their clients giving them the ability to reach a healthier lifestyle.  The area that I need to continue to improve on is having a wellness in the psychological area.  This is the area that I still need the most improvement on and will have the most beneficial achievement when I have reached the goal that I have sent.
When it comes to assessing my health in three domains it varies from category to category.  I definitely believe that I have grown in each domain but I always believe that there is room to grow and with determination I will be able to achieve my goals in each level towards an overall wellness.  I would rate my physical health 6 out of 10.  I have a goal in mind and would love to accomplish it with in the next couple of months.  I have a routine workout and I eat the correct foods most of the time.  The reason that I do not give myself a higher rating would be because I tend forgot to workout and sometimes I go back to eating unhealthy foods.  When it comes to spiritual well being I would rate myself 7 out of 10.  I definitely believe in a higher power and I try to use pray on an everyday basis.  I believe that spirituality gives me a sense of relaxation and because of this faith I do not put extreme amounts of pressure on myself.  My psychological well being would have to be rated as 6 out of 10.  I believe that this is the area that I need the most work in and I am determine to achieve this part of wellness through the skills and exercises that I learned throughout the term.  The reason that I rate this so low is because I tend to keep things inside instead of talking about emotions and feelings with others.  I also struggle sometimes on mediation and other exercises because of the distractions that I sometimes get when participating in these exercises.  I believe if I continue to work on my weaknesses I will eventually make these areas stronger and will become a healthier person.
I believe the goals that I have set can help me accomplish my overall wellness.  The goal that I have set for myself when it comes to physical health is being able to stick with an exercise routine and implement it on an everyday basis.  I also want to be able to cut out as much junk food out of my diet that way I have took the craving from these foods and it allows me to eat healthier foods for my body.  My goal for psychological health is being able to continue to improve in mediation.  I want to be able to mediate without any distractions and complete the mediation in a calm and relaxing way.  I also want to be able to experience different types of mediation throughout my life in order to have a variety of mediations.  My goal for spiritual health is being able to get closer to God and put more faith in his hand.  I want to be able to use prayer more and have that time that I can speak to the Lord through thoughts and prayers.  All these goals will help me get closer to my achievements and set up a guideline for me throughout this process.
I have the perfect exercises in order to become a better person because of these strategies that I will implement into my everyday life.  I believe that the strategies that I must implement are commitment and dedication.  I need to have the determination that I know I can achieve all my goals through these exercises and strategies.  I believe that I can start by caring a journal and righting down everything that I experience from the exercises.  I also believe that I can set alarms to remind me when I need to complete these exercises and I definitely believe that having a buddy system can help me when it comes to accomplishing my goals.  The exercises that I can implement in my exercise routine include power yoga.  This keeps my workout different and allows for different muscles in my body to be exercised.  This exercise allows not allow works the body but allows relieves stress and prepares muscles for more vigorous activity throughout the day.  The next exercises that can help with my goal include push-ups.  This exercise is important because it is simple to do and I do not have to go to a gym in order to complete it.  I also believe that I can use a daily planner in order to watch what I eat.  I can record everything that I eat then cut out anything that does not need to be in my daily diet (Morning Exercise, 2011).  The exercise that I would use for psychological health would be an exercise dealing with neural building and strengthening exercises.  When doing these exercises, I would use my opposite hand when brushing my teeth, dial the phone, and using the television remote.  The importance of these exercises is being able to train the mind to know not to rely on a specific body function and being equal when it comes to body functions.  The next exercise that I will implement would be neurobic exercises.  In these exercises I would combine two senses at the same time, such as smelling a flower and listen to music or listening to rain and taping my fingers.  This would train the mind to multitask without becoming overwhelmed with stress and anxiety (The Human Brain, 2004).  The exercises that I would include when it comes to spiritual health include first an exercise called, “Centering Prayer.”  This exercise allows me become clam and quiet and just being in the presence of God.  This exercise shows me that analyzing, judging, and etc. are not important and being with God helps me understand my surroundings and become closer to the higher power (Centering Prayer, 2007).  My next spiritual exercise is called, “Experience Presence of God” and this allows me put myself in a quiet place and mediate of verse in the scripture of the Bible.  I will repeat this verse over and over and after this is over I can pray and speak to God about the experience that I have had from the exercise.  I will implement all these exercises and strategies by beginning a schedule for myself.  I will time out each exercise on a daily basis and this will help me organize each strategy without becoming stressed and will help me accomplish my goals through these exercises (Experience Presence of God, 2007).
The commitment process of change maybe the most important decision because it allows for me to recognize that I need to me a change in order to become a healthier person.  The first one that I will do in order to track my progress in the next six months include having a journal or continue to post on my blog.  This will allow me to show myself through the experiences that I have had for the day whether it be a positive or negative thought or emotion because of the exercises that I have completed.  I believe that this blog will allow me to look at my experiences through the six months and see what I have improved on or still need maybe need to improve in.  I believe that I need to obtain a schedule in order to maintain my practices in health and wellness.  With the use of an alarm clock and schedule I can continue to do my exercises in order to obtain my goals of becomes an overall healthy person.  Some of the other strategies that I will implement into my daily life will be keeping positive thoughts throughout my process.  This will help me when having negative thoughts and emotions because I can use my positive thoughts to keep out the distractions that I may have during certain times during my life.  I also believe that if I have a buddy system I will be able to accomplish the goals at hand.  I think that having an individual their encouraging me and helping with my exercises, this will keep my spirits high and my achievements in reach.  All the steps that I have taking will allow me to have a better life and will have a much enjoyable and relaxed experience when I accomplish my goals to becoming an overall healthy person.

Two Beneficial Practices

Hello Everyone,

The two beneficial practices that I enjoyed the most were the Loving Kindness Exercise and the Subtle Mind Exercise.  I really enjoyed the first exercise and I certainly think it was valuable when completing it.  When I started the exercise and began listening to the voice on the track, I went into a status of relaxation.  As I continued to listen, the words and voice became calmer and I began to go into a daze.  This exercise was amazing because after I finished the exercise I felt as if I went out of the exercise in a happier mood.  I definitely recommend this exercise to other individuals because it sooths the mind.  I also felt has if I was looser and in a better mood after completing the practice.  I felt as if my muscles were made of jello because the tightness was gone.  I also believe that this exercise will bring about an overall wellness because an individual will be able to experience positive emotions after the exercise.  The second exercise is the subtle exercise and although this exercise frustrated me a bit, I thought it brought about a great deal of benefits.  This exercise allowed me to begin my mediation with a focus point so my mind would not be distracted during the practice.  This exercise wanted me to be at tranquility and have a clear mind.  This exercise is beneficial when it comes to becoming more trained in the mind and allow for distractions to become less involved before, during, and after the exercise.  I would definitely recommend both exercises because it allows the mind to be trained, which is very important when it comes to overall wellness.

The ways that I can implement these exercises into my everyday life would include having a journal and using it on an everyday basis.  If I have this journal then I can use it by organizing when I can participate in these strategies.  I can do these practices in the morning to start my day which will allow me to start my day with relaxation and calmness.  I then can do these exercises at night because they will allow me to rid my mind of any negative thoughts and emotions.  Some of the other things that I can do to complete my daily exercises would be having a partner to help me complete them.  I can involve this individual in the mediation process and we could lean on each other for moral support and encouragement.  With these steps I can begin a life of change and think about the future where I am much healthier and a happier individual.

Meeting Asciepius Exercise

Hello,

I really enjoyed this week's exercise.  The thing that I liked most about the exercise was the fact that I could picture someone close to me.  I decided to visualize my grandmother because she was one of my favorite individuals to be around and every since she has passed I miss her greatly.  This exercise allowed me to see her through my mind and allowed me to communicate with her on an higher level even through see is no longer with me.  This exercise allows an individual to become closer with that person that is closest to your heart and shows individuals why they are so important to them.  I also enjoyed the exercise because it allows me to find the importance of that person whether it be their voice, characteristics, or etc.  I definitely recommend this exercise to everyone that maybe missing someone or just to be closer to the person that is important to them.

Meditation has definitely been fostered into my psychological wellness.  I believe since I have begun meditation I have seen an increase in my awareness and my surroundings.  When I first started this practice, I had a hard time concentrating and would find myself very distracted during meditation.  But over the weeks I have began to focus and I have seen a major improvement.  Mediation allows me to relax and just and a sense of calmness before, during, and after each practice.  The ways that I will continue these practices will be allowing myself during a certain time of day to just meditate.  I believe that if I do that in the mornings I have a better aspect about myself during the day.  I am also less stressed and definitely more relaxed throughout the day.

The saying "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" definitely means that in order for an individual to experience something they need to experience that for themselves before criticizing another individual.  So if an individual is obese, no other individual should criticize them because they do not know what the situation is.  It come be genetics or they may have gone through a difficult situation.  It is that individuals concern and others should help and not criticize.  I definitely have an obligation to develop my psychological, physical, and spiritual health.  I want to be able to set an example for my clients and in order to do that I need to have overall health not just physical health as a personal trainer.  I want to be a role model for these individuals and I want them to train their mind that eating health and having faith is just as important as being physically fit.  The ways that I can implement psychological and spiritual growth in my life is by first getting closer to God.  I think that I need to pray more often then I do and I need to put my trust in him.  I can obtain psychological growth by mediating on an everyday basis.  If I am able to do this I will be less stress and I will have a happier life because I am aware of all my situations and no that positive mindsets are definitely better than negative mindsets.

Universal Loving Kindness & Integral Assessment

Hello Everyone,

After completing the universal Loving Kindness exercise I felt as if a sense of relieve had been lifted from my mind.  I felt has if I had forgiven everyone that had upset me and I felt a sense of joy after completing the exercise.  The exercise allowed me to have a love everyone not just a personal love and it allowed me to wish the best on everyone.  I really enjoyed the exercise and I definitely recommend that everyone try it.  It allows for an expansion in the mind and heart and allows for an individual to avoid anger and hatred.

During the Integral Assessment exercise I found it to be relaxing and allowed me to focus on one concept instead of multiple concepts.  This exercise was definitely helpful because it allowed me to focus on the growth that I needed and I was allowed to commit to the one area.  The area that I decided to focus on during this exercise was the psychospiritual area.  The reason that I decided to focus on this area was because my mind needs more training and the concept is seems to take the most time to master.  I believe that the reason for this is because it involved psychological growth and spiritual growth.  The first exercise that can help me in my growth with this area is meditation.  This will allow me to have focus during a certain time of the day for growth and will allow me to train the mind to focus on a certain point.  Also, pray can help me with this area because it allows me to be in a quiet area where I can be alone but also pray to a higher power.  Both of these exercises will allow me to become more familiar with the pyschospiritual aspect of wellness and get me one step closer to overall wellness.

Subtle Mind Exercise

Hello Everyone,

The Loving Kindness exercise and the Subtle Mind exercise are definitely different after listening to both of them.  They both deal with two different concepts and they both have a different meaning after each are done listening to them.  I enjoyed the Loving Kindness exercise because it allowed me to just feel my emotions and not hide away from them.  I believe that this exercise benefits me because it allows me to express my thoughts and emotions.  The reason that I was frustrated with the Subtle Mind exercise because it wanted me to have a focus point.  The exercise wants the individual to be at a stillness and having a clear mind.  Although, this exercise is beneficial when it comes to becoming more trained in the mind, it takes away from the visualization.  I would definitely recommend both exercises because they allow the mind to be trained but I would definitely choose the first exercise compared to the Subtle Mind exercise.

The connection between spiritual wellness and the mental and physical wellness is for significant.  I believe that spiritual wellness has had a major impact on my life.  It allows for me to believe in a higher power and gives me hope that I can accomplish anything.  I believe because of spiritual wellness we are able to believe in our minds that it is true and we are able to live healthier lifestyles.  The connection has played a huge part in my life because that I have faith in a higher power I am able to use my mental wellness to make the correct decisions such has making the choice to put the right things in my body.  I believe that if spiritual wellness was not part of the overall wellness, then individuals would just be couch potatoes because they would have no purpose in life and would not be able to work towards their goals.

Loving Kindness & Mental Workout

Hello Everyone,
I really enjoyed the exercise and I definitely think it was beneficial.  When I started the exercise and began listening to the voice on the track I went into a state of relaxation.  As I continued to listen the words and voice become soother and began to go into some kind of trance because of the words that were spoken and the background music.  This exercise was amazing because after I finished the exercise I felt as if I went out of the exercise in a happier feeling.  I definitely recommend this exercise to other individuals because it sooths the mind when completing the exercise.  I also felt has if I was looser and in a better mood after completing the exercise.  I felt as if my muscles were made of jello because the tightness was gone.  I also believe that this exercise will bring about an overall wellness because an individual will be able to experience positive emotions after the exercise.

Mental Workout is used to decrease troubling emotions that cause annoyance, hatred, panic, concern, uncertainty and doubt.  The benefits of this concept are constructive emotions such as endurance, loving-kindness, honesty, acceptance, and contentment.  It also provides improved resistance to mental suffering and physical disease and promotes well-being.  One of the exercises that I can input into my life for better psychological health is "The Subtle Mind."  This practice diminishes the constant mental movements of feelings, manner, and images.  If I practice this frequently, I will extend a witnessing awareness that subsequently progress toward the mind of clam-abiding.  An exercise that I could use for this is meditation, where I am in a quiet room with my eyes closed.  While this occurs I have a blank mind so that I can relax and feel calm.  This exercise will allow me to let go of life and just feel the relaxation that takes over.
